Visitors to the recent revived Colesberg Sheep Festival were charmed by a troupe of young gumboot dancers from the HCET. Most of them are in Grade 5, and a few are in Grade 6. Known as the ‘Gumboots Boys’, they are coached by the HCET’s indefatigable music teacher, Unathi Asiya. Earlier this year, they participated in the Karoo Eisteddfod 2025, and won double gold.
The Umthombo Wolwazi choir has done the Hantam Trust proud by excelling in the nationals of the South African Schools Choral Eisteddfod held in Randburg, Johannesburg, from 1 to 4 July 2025. As previously, the HCET celebrated Heritage Day 2025 in grand style, with staff and learners alike dressing up in colourful costumes, and taking part in singing and dancing.
Grade 3 learners during an educational visit to the HCET vegetable garden, managed by Charles Gavaza. Besides providing the Trust and the surrounding community with fresh produce, the garden is used to teach learners about food security and nutrition, and the value of growing one’s own vegetables.
