New ECD Centre at the HCET

Thanks to a donation from the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), the HCET has gained a new Early Childhood Development Centre. The first significant extension to the complex in a number of years, it consists of two spacious classrooms, a store room, a kitchenette and toilets.

The well-equipped play area is covered in artificial grass, and the entire centre is enclosed with a palisade fence, thereby ensuring its security.

Following an application process, the grant was approved towards the end of last year, and the funds were made available in December. Construction started in the the latter part of January and finished in mid-March. The ECD classes moved in during the holidays, and the centre was fully functional at the beginning of the second term.

The two classrooms previously used for ECD are now used as a dedicated art class, as well as the computer-based reading program. In 2022, we received a donation from Kinderfonds MAMAS for new computers to be installed in the Youth Development Centre in Colesberg, and the old computers have been refurbished and installed in the new computer room. The reading program has been installed on all these computers, and the project is up and running.

Our heartfelt thanks to the DBSA as well as Kinderfonds MAMAS.
