The HCET is a beneficiary of the MAMAS Alliance, a network of 36 NGOs across South Africa which seek to care for vulnerable children and youths. Among other things, it stages a Share Conference every second year that offers NGOs a valuable learning and sharing platform. Share 2022 was held in Johannesburg over four days, from 31 October to 3 November, and was attended by Mary Ann Smith, the HCET’s director, and Estelle Jacobs, its project manager. Estelle gave a presentation on FASD and the HCET’s programme for combating it.

In late January / early February the Karoo had an abundance of rain. It was good for the farms, but made it difficult to get around. Our intrepid drivers and Isuzu vehicles were put to the test, transporting learners to and from school.
