Round-up for 2017

End of year staff party

The end of year staff party was held at Weltevreden Farm on 29 November. Staff members take turns to organise the party, and this year was the turn of Hanna Phemba and Roos Pergoo. They did a great job !

Hospitality Services assessment

On 29 November, Ms Cindy Greyling, the City & Guilds representative in Bloemfontein, visited the HCET Training Centre for a follow-up assessment of the Hospitality Services students.

Final Culinary Arts exams

On 27-30 November, Ms Maritha Steyn of Steyn’s Culinary School in Pretoria conducted the final practical exams for nine students enrolled for the Culinary Arts Diploma at the Hantam Training Centre in Colesberg. She was accompanied by Ms Suzanne Crozier, an executive chef and food writer. The students came from the neighbouring towns of Graaff-Reinet, Tarkastad and Cradock.

Grade Nine farewell function

On 25 November, 13 Grade 9 pupils enjoyed a lovely day out at River Destiny Lodge to celebrate the end of their school career at Umthombo Wolwazi. They were accompanied by Principal Marie Botha, teachers Florence Raisa, Cherry Dimphana, Charles Gavaza and Anel Heydenrych (their class teacher), and Trust staff Lesley Osler, Clare Barnes-Webb, Anja Pienaar and Estelle Jacobs (who was OC of the braai, while the pupils were in and out of the pool all day).

Prize-giving ceremony

On 20 October, the 2017 school prize-giving ceremony was held in the Colesberg High School Hall. It was extremely well attended by parents, learners and staff, who also enjoyed the display of art work in the foyer, as well as refreshments.

Family Day

On 14 October, the Effective Parenting team held another Family Day at the HCET. This was a great success, and attended by about 500 people – parents, children, staff and visitors. The morning started with a huge jumble sale for the adults, and a jumping castle for the children. This was followed by a demonstration from the Khululeka Education Development Centre in Queenstown on keyhole vegetable gardening, which complemented the theme for this year’s gathering, namely Nutrition.
