FROM 19—22 July, Estelle Jacobs, facilitator of the HCET Hospitality training programme, and Maryke Jeffrey, chef trainer at the HCET Training Centre in Colesberg, attended a culinary workshop in Pretoria to familiarise themselves with the latest culinary trends.
In February, the HCET was registered with City & Guilds as a subcentre of Steyns Culinary School. This will enable the Trust to offer a Diploma Course in Hospitality as opposed to the Certificate Course offered in the past.
The Diploma Course started in January this year with an intake of 10 students recruited from Cradock, Graaff-Reinet and Tarkastad. A matric certificate was required to enrol for the course.
All 10 students passed their six-month theoretical course, and were placed at hospitality venues for six months of practical experience. After completing their final City & Guilds exam at the end of November, they will be placed in permanent employment. The second intake of students was enrolled in July.
All 20 hospitality students passed the Skillswize Computer Course which was run concurrently with the Chef’s Course.
