Family Fun Day at the HCET

Family Fun Day at the HCETMORE THAN 250 parents and children attended a Family Fun Day held at the HCET complex on 5 September 2015.

Organised by the Trust’s FASD field workers, Hanna Mphemba, Roos Pergoo, Lettie Martins, Lolly van der Ranse and Nandi Seekoei, it was held to mark world FASD Day, and to reinforce the message that drinking during pregnancy can seriously harm unborn children and affect their subsequent development.

Each family painted a family tree on a poster. A jumble sale was held, largely comprising good second-hand clothing, shoes, and household items. Items sold for between R5 and R20 each so that everyone could buy something. Sweets, cold drinks, cakes, popcorn, and hot dogs were on sale.

A soccer match was staged between workers from Tweefontein and Weltevreden farms, which was won by the former. A light lunch was served for everyone.

Everyone agreed that the day was a great success, and spoke of a wonderful community spirit. The proceeds will be donated towards costs of the next TLC camp for learners with emotional difficulties to be held at Poplar Grove Farm.
